“And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. and the favor of God was upon him.” Luke 2:40
“And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52
Biblically speaking what does wisdom look like? Proverbs 1 tells us that fools despise wisdom. Psalms 90:12 tells us to “number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Proverbs 3:13 tells us that “blessed is the one who finds wisdom”. In the book of Proverbs wisdom is personified, meaning wisdom takes on characteristics of a person. For instance wisdom does not literally have a voice, yet Proverbs 8:1 says “Does not wisdom call?”. And wisdom is not literally able to build a house, but 9:1 says “Wisdom has built her house;”. There is a personification of wisdom because “wisdom” is a shadow of Jesus. In Matthew 23:34 in one of Jesus’ many “Woe to you scribes and Pharisees” discords he says “Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town,”. The same saying in Luke 11:49-50 is recorded by Luke to have been said by the “Wisdom of God”- “Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,'”. The Wisdom of God is not a thing but a person. The question is therefore not “what is wisdom?” but “who is wisdom?”. I Corinthians 1:30 says “And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God.” Christ is not only full of wisdom he is wisdom.
When we pray for our kids to grow in wisdom or be wise we are praying for our kids to know Christ because true wisdom lies only in Christ. Christ who is the co-creator of the world can provide supernatural wisdom and insight that can not be found in any other way. I was recently reading a book and came to a passage where a watchmaker was having difficulty fixing a certain watch. In his lack of human wisdom he offered a simple prayer to God who set the heavens into motion and knows the inner workings of the entire universe, so could he please offer a little help with the inner workings of the watch. How perfect! Our God has wisdom for every situation whether big or small! We do not pray for our children to have worldly wisdom, but only that which comes from God. It is through knowing God, and his son Jesus, that our kids will actually grow in wisdom.
Thank you all so much for praying for our school! What a blessing it is to have so many sending a sweet aroma up to our Father while praying for our kids! Below you will find Bible scriptures and corresponding prayers. Please read through the verses and then pray over the children by inserting their names into the blanks. Please pray over your own children as well as friends and classmates. You can also pray for families and faculty by name. Thank you again for blessing our school through the power of prayer!!
In Him, Erin Warford
