Looking at the Scriptures: The face of the God
The face of the LORD is a place of refuge from our enemies and uplifting for us. It is a place of intimacy and relationship. It is a place where we encounter the heart of our God.I came across a few verses this summer that puzzled me. In Exodus 33 Moses asked the LORD to show him His glory, and the LORD agreed to but said “But, you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.
” So why is it that there are verses that seem to encourage us to seek the LORD’s face when He told Moses clearly that he could not see his face?
I explored a little more through scripture and figured out that Moses represented the law. (“For the law was given through Moses,” John 1:17a) No one under law can see God’s face. The law contains all the demands put on man to “achieve” righteousness. The problem is that we cannot achieve righteousness by our works. We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Those under the law look at the law to see what they need to do.
If we contrast that with grace we can look at the same list of demands and commandments and see what Jesus has fulfilled on our behalf (“grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17b), perfectly working out every single righteous requirement placed on us. When we look at the Bible and see what Jesus has done instead of what we need to do, we are now under grace and we see that face of God!
Prayer: Lord, let your face SHINE on my child. Thank you for saving us in your unfailing love! This we pray in Jesus’ holy name.
Read the Word, then pray the Word over our children.
Consistently pray for each student at Little Rock Christian by name.
These are the 2 simple goals of our newly revised “prayer moms” group called “Pray LRCA”.
What’s involved, you ask? Pray LRCA moms will:
- receive a list of students over which to pray for the year
- get an email in their inbox every Sunday with a scripture to pray that week
- be invited to study the Word, then pray the Word together once a month
